2016-17 Girls Basketball Highlights
The Lady Tornadoes started off great in first quarter as both played very well but in second quarter, we were not able to compete with them as they made 14 points. In the fourth quarter, we finally played better on offense but it wasn’t enough. Anjel Perez led with nine points, 11 rebounds, five steals, and a block while Samantha Pon added nine rebounds, two steals, and a block.

New York 40 Soundview Prep 21
NYSD travelled to Soundview Prep as the lady Tornadoes record their 5th win of season. Rosalinda T. lead with 11 points and 3 steals. Samantha P. and Anjel P. works together in the paint as both combine 31 rebounds. Samantha added 10 points, 7 steals and season high 6 blocks.

The Lady Tornadoes took control the game with team season high 21 offensive rebounds. Rosalinda Taveras led the team with 10 points, seven offensive rebounds, and four steals. Anjel added seven points and eight rebounds. Samantha Pon grabbed 11 rebounds and had 10 steals along with two blocks for the team.

We lost our momentum in the second half after strong first half. Rosalinda Taveras put in eight points and Kiara Herrera scored seven points.

It was a good teamwork effort in our win against RISD. Each girl contributed with an assist and leading the way was Rosalinda Taveras with 15 points. Roza Doci had eight rebounds.

In a tough road game against EF International, the girls put up a fight but came up short in a 16-point loss. Anjel leaded the team in rebounding with 16. Our next game will be at Lexington.

Green Meadows 28 New York 21
The team came up short in the end but played their hearts out. Samantha lead the team with 10 rebounds and six steals. Anjel had a career high 12 points, nine rebounds, and five steals.
The Lady Tornadoes struggled in this game as we didn’t have two of our key players. Samantha worked hard to carry the team from start to finish with six points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Alora had four points and nine rebounds. Our next game will be against Greens Meadows on Wednesday, January 18 at home.

The game was very intense for both team. We were able to shut PSD down in the first quarter. The second quarter was tough for us as one of our key players, Silmara, injured her knee which took her to hospital. PSD broke through their struggle with the offense as they scored 17 points in the second quarter. Samantha finished with eight points while Alora, Silmara, and Rosalinda each had four points.

It was a tough game for girls tonight as they were not ready to play as they struggled on all ends of the floor. Samantha finished with four points and eight rebounds. Anjel had 11 rebounds and Silmara chipped in with eight points.

New York girls basketball team were back in action Thursday night against New Jersey School for the Deaf. The game went back and forth quarter by quarter but NYSD was able to pull out the win. This win was a totally team effort by each player doing their part. Anjel Perez had 14 rebounds, Samantha Pon had eight points, and Silmara Campos had eight points.

We had a slow start with just eight points in the first half and was down by one at the half. The second half was a different story as we struggled to score. Samantha Pon grabbed 12 rebounds in the loss.

The team struggled in this game as the girls were flat on offense and defense. It just seemed nothing was going our way. Samantha Pon had 13 points and 13 rebounds while Anjel Perez had 10 rebounds.

The girls had a good start building a 5-4 lead in the second quarter and that was the final lead we had for the rest of the game. We went stone cold in the second half. The girls were in the game but had fourth quarter breakdown and a loss. Samantha Pon had four points with 20 rebounds while Anjel Perez had 12 rebounds.

French-American JV 21 New York 18
The Lady Tornadoes started the game taking a four-point lead over French-American by forcing them to turn over the ball on their first three possessions. The Lady Tornadoes played great defense through the entire game with Anjel’s 17 rebounds and Samantha grabbed 15 rebounds. Silmara led the way on offense with 6 points.
