Compensation and Benefits
At New York School for the Deaf, compensation includes much more than a paycheck. Employees are offered an extensive benefits package.
Medical – New York State Health Insurance Plan (NYSHIP) offers a wide range of hospital, medical/surgical, and mental health and substance abuse coverage. All plans provide prescription drug coverage as well. Not only does NYSHIP cover medical benefits but offers discounts on gym memberships, as well.
Dental – Aetna offers not only dental coverage but great deals on fitness, vision, hearing, complementary products and services and more. Employees have the choice of choosing between PPO and DMO. The option is yours.
Direct Deposit – New York School for the Deaf offers and encourages direct deposit so that funds are available immediately.
NY State Retirement System – As a member of the NYS retirement system, employees are covered by a plan that provides important benefits regarding retirement and pension plans.
403(b) (Optional) – A 403(b) is a retirement savings plan in addition to your retirement money. The 403(b) allows for employees to put money aside tax free until it is withdrawn. There are four vendors to choose from.
FlexSystem (Optional) – FlexSystem offers employees a choice to pay for specific qualified benefits on a pre-tax basis. Paying for certain benefits with pre-tax dollars reduces the amount paid in taxes and increases the take-home pay. Every dollar paid on a pre-tax basis results in a savings to the employee.
Aflac (Optional) – Major medical pays for doctors and hospitals. However, Aflac is insurance for daily living. It pays cash benefits directly to you, unless otherwise assigned, to help with daily expenses when sick or hurt.
Long Term Disability (Optional) – LTD insurance helps protect income in the event that an employee is disabled by an injury or sickness and are unable to perform the duties of his/her job. LTD benefits keep pace with employee salary. As earnings increase, so do employee benefits.
